Nepra Warns KE of Consequences Over Delayed Data Submission

NEPRA-Office

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has cautioned K-Electric (KE) of serious repercussions for failing to provide timely and complete information as directed.

According to Nepra’s order, KE was instructed on May 15, 2024, to submit details on net-metering applications rejected due to overloading of the Common Distribution System and Pole Mounted Transformers (PMTs) within seven days. However, KE did not comply within the stipulated period, despite a reminder issued on June 13, 2024. The company later requested an extension until July 15, 2024—over 30 days past the initial deadline.

Nepra subsequently issued an explanation letter to KE on July 12, 2024, under its Fines Rules and Regulations. While KE submitted partial data on July 15, 2024, it was deemed incomplete. The regulator then directed KE on August 12, 2024, to provide comprehensive details, including specifics on rejected net-metering cases and PMT load capacity.

Following KE’s unsatisfactory response, Nepra issued a Show Cause Notice on November 13, 2024. KE, in its reply on November 26, 2024, argued that the delay was due to the complexity of compiling accurate data from various departments, requiring field surveys for verification. KE later provided additional details on PMT load capacity in a letter dated September 13, 2024.

Despite KE’s request for the withdrawal of the Show Cause Notice, citing ongoing deliberations and compliance with regulations, Nepra reviewed the submissions and ultimately deemed them satisfactory, acknowledging KE’s subsequent provision of the required information.
